Village's Christmas Lights Switch-On Brightens with Community Spirit!
The recent Christmas Lights Switch-On event was a sparkling triumph, uniting our community in a festive celebration that will be fondly remembered.
Event highlights
The festivities featured a delightful array of local stalls. Yonder Pizza (who previously delighted at the Marquee Dance - we hope to see them regularly at our bus stop for pop-up nights). Julian the Cumbrian Chef entertained with stories of village life and his experience running a personal chef service for weddings and small events. A Word in Your Ear coffee truck raced from KMF to offer warm drinks despite a faulty grinder, and they can usually be found around Bowland Bridge and the South Lakes area. Plants on the Green made a generous contribution to the tree fund while also raising significant funds for local food banks. 🌱
Volunteers to the rescue
A huge thank you to the dedicated volunteers who made the event possible. Steve, with his trusty Unimog, helped lift the tree, while David B ensured its safe arrival from sustainable Scottish woods. James B was instrumental with his technical expertise and muscle, Michael provided carpentry and tree-climbing skills, Paul handled electrics and sound setup, and Helen led with decorative flair. Kevin and Grant B were key players in the tree erection team, with Dave R providing essential logistical and media support, despite his limp!
A special thanks
Our new LED lights, purchased in 2021, were both spectacular and economical, costing less than £20 in electricity thanks to a timer. Special thanks to Dave and Vanessa at the Village Shop for their community spirit and helping with the electricity connection.
Fundraising flourishes
Generosity was the theme of the night, with £167.22 gathered in our fundraising bucket. Thanks to Yonder Pizza for their contribution. On our JustGiving page, we’ve raised £604 from 26 supporters, moving closer to our £750 target. Contributions from stalls added another £75, and Plants on the Green proudly announced raising £292.50 for charity. For those wanting to contribute, our fundraising bucket is still available in the village shop, or you can donate online.
This event not only illuminated our village but also highlighted the strong community spirit we hold dear. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered. Until next year's festivities, let’s keep the spirit bright! ✨
