Greening Levens
About Greening Levens
The campaign is based on a blueprint initiative for local communities to take action against climate change; helping the environment, reducing our carbon footprint and saving money - and helping other villagers do the same. The campaign kicked off on Wednesday, 29th September 2021, ahead of launching on October 30th 2021 (just in time for COP26).

Property owner questionnaire
This project is based on the principle that CAfS will introduce groups of interested property owners to two solar PV installers so that they can provide quotes. It is likely that the initial quote will be based on a desk-top assessment, and if you are interested in exploring it further, the installer will follow this up with a site visit.
The campaign begins!
Meet Mrs Greening! She's not picked the best week to promote the benefits of air-drying laundry, but washing at a lower temperature and letting nature do the drying are great ways of saving energy. Her best friend is Helen.
Meet William Walker! He's definitely *not* legless, and very keen to avoid using a car when a walk (and maybe a bus) will get you there, with the added benefit of exercise.
Meet Billy Bio! He's our biodiversity mascot, despite being a bit leg-less today!
Meet Lamb and Farmer Stu! They are all for sourcing their food as locally as possible. Their best friends Isla and Nia also love local produce.
Meet Michael Recycle - he's using the bottle to demonstrate things you can recycle! His best friend is Darren.
Meet Bog-Off Billy! He's keen to promote working together and especially to support anti-bullying week - which is directly after COP26 . #choosekindness His best friend Rachel tells us that he's wearing odd socks inside his wellies!
Meet William Warmer! He's saving money (and the planet) by putting an extra jumper on, rather than pumping up the heating. His best friends are Janet and Mike.
Barbara and Tom are getting organised, whilst enjoying a nice cup of tea (or coffee) with their little helper. Keep Calm and a toast to Levens! A good list of pledges there...
Meet Electra Light! She is very keen for everybody to switch to LED lighting, saving loads of electricity through the dark winter months. Her best friend is Amanda Green.
Meet Rachel Recycle. She is really keen on recycling (especially tins) and is - herself - a great example of re-use! Her best friend is Vanessa Attenborough.
Meet Percy Plant! He grows his own food and flowers, (and shares what he doesn't need via Plants on The Green). His best friend is Liz Hearnden.
Meet Suzy Seawaste, our first Mer-crow! Suzy likes nice clean water to swim in, with no bits of plastic. And, as you can see, her best friend is Jake!
Meet Connie Sumer! She's rather particular about minimising food miles and shopping locally, especially if it involves a walk rather than driving. Give her a wave if you see her! Her best friend is Denise Green.
Meet the boss! This is Graham Greening, who's keeping an eye on the whole village to make sure we do a good job - and enjoy it!
Meet Fiona The Scarecrow! She's all about reuse, and has the snazziest glasses in the village. Her best friends are Levens Brownies!
Meet Beatrice Berde - Bee for short! As an apiarist, she'd love everybody to follow the advice of the Royal Horticultural Society: - Fill gardens with plants for pollinators - Allow lawn ‘weeds’ to flower by cutting less often - Provide water for pollinators - Avoid using pesticides where possible - never spray open flowers - Provide nest sites for wild bees Her best friend is Annie Rawlinson!
Meet Walter Butt! He's keeping his garden growing without using up drinking water, instead using the free stuff that falls out of the sky (quite a lot of late). His best friend is Susan.
Meet Graeme Gardening. He's been working hard all year to grow food and flowers for the good folks at Ringingstones. Look at that big bag of apples; food doesn't get more local!
